USES FOR WOMEN.
The best use to which a women can be put is to be made an honest wife of some good man and the judicious mother _of healthy children. All the art and learning that she can compass are not of so much value to the world as the example of a life passed quietly in the exercise of domestic duties and social righteousness, in the gift to the country of children who shall carry on the national tradition of courage and f oneroaity, of unselfishness and virtue,— London “ Truth." This excellent suggestion is not new, but does it never occur to the London “ Truth ” that if married life is to be held up to women as her true profession, man ought to give her the social right of proposing marriage to the other sex? We submit that nothing can be meaner in man than to assure woman kindly, calmly, and profoundly that her tfue place is to be a wife, apd then coolly hut firmly hid her wait for that opportunity till some mancon descends to ask her.—“ Springfield Republican.”
