THE FOXTON ELECTION.
TO THE EDITOR Off THE NEW ZHALA.NR TIMES. Sib, "A Foxton Elector,” in your Saturday’s issue, deduces a ; true conclusion from false premises (an achievement not unknown _jS*amoDg the older logicians), when he says that, “ because Mr Izard has the advantage of Dr. Newman in years and experience, he is a sedimentary fossii.” Now, I imagine that nobody coaid for a moment doubt that Mr Izard is a sedimentary fossil—whatever that means—whereas the argument by which “ A Koxton Elector ” proves it is certainly a debatable question, viz., that Mr Izard is a man of greater experience—in politics, of course, I mean. Mr Izard, it is true, has had more experience of a lawyer’s office, but we don’t want our wills made or our property mortgaged just yet. What we want is a man who will give his attention to the good of the colony and the interests of oar district, and the man who will do that is Hr, Newman. An ex-Supportor of Dr, N ewman ” i« interesting also, aa- proving that false premises can be used to produce false conclusions, when be points to a candidate for the Foxton district as the author of *my previous letter. “Wilson, the Foxton farmer, &c.," is his choice, it seems, •' one who hath land in the district ! go to,” in imitation of Dogberry and Dr. Duller, who is also a man of wealth —“ be said so, and he ought to know.” But we do not want the Foxton farmer of 7000 acres, and we will not have the m»c whose efforts for the Manawatu railway (at zriO 10a a-day) prevented him from addressing ns sooner. As for Mr Izard, he had much better make use of his years and experience in the business they so well fit him far.—l am, 4c., As ix-Sikoku or Ms riuutci.
