THE FERRET PROSECUTION. SENTENCE OF THE PRISONERS. Melbourne, July 22. Judgment in the Ferret prosecution was delivered to-day. Henderson, tho reputed owner, and Wallace, the purser, have each been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment, and Wright, the captain, to three and a-half years. Brisbane, July 22.
After further examination of the three children residing in South Brisbane, the doctors pronounce their cases not to be small-pox. It having definitely transpired that the report received on the Bth that the sentence of death passed upon Midhal Pasha for complicity in the murder of the Sultan Abdul Aziz, has been commuted to banishment to Arabia—was incorrect, and that the death sentence is to be carried out, the British Government has sent a communication to the Earl of Dufferiu, tho Ambassador at Constantinople, instructing him to intercede with the Porte on behalf of Midhat, and to urge a commutation of the sentence of death.
In the action Clarke versus Bradlaugh, to recover penalties from the latter for sitting and voting in the House of Commons without t first taking the oath, a verdict has now'been finally returned for the plaintiff. : Sydney, July 24.
Admiral the Earl of Clanwilliam is now better.. The squadron will not, however, leave for Auckland before Tuesday next, and its departure may probably be further postponed to allow'time for the Bacchante to come on from Melbourne to join.
