THE CHINESE NAVY.

The Chinese navy is to be increased by the addition of three ironclads of 3200 tons and 750 horse-power, and are to carry six 25-ton Armstrong guns as armament ; also four Nordenfeldt guns. They are fitted with the most improved torpedo machinery. Two are building in France and one at Stettin. Armstrong & Co. and Messrs. Mitchell & Co. have nearly completed two steel gun vessels of the Greek alphabet type of ships, with the exception that they are to carry two guns having an initial velocity of 2300 feet per second, and weighing 22 tons each. The velocity of the guns now on board the ships forming the foreign squadrons range from 1000 to 1300 feet—-the new Chinese weapons thus being far superior to any now on board these ships.
