A LIVELY HORSEWHIPPING CASE.
(united press assoc ation, Auckland, September 15, A case of horsewhipping a medical man took place this afternoon under the following circumstances i—The assailant, Captain Kerr, was walking along Queen-street, and there met Dr. Smith, who was with Messrs. H. Abbot and Neville Walker. The captain, cryingout “You scoundrel/’ suddenly produced a horsewhip, and knocked eff the debtor's hat, and belabored him with tbe whip. The doctor attempted tq beat a retreat, but the captain kept following him up, accompanying blows with some muttered expressions. Eventually bystanders interfered, and the gentlemen were separated. An information of assault will In all probability be laid. The cause of the affray is thought, from the language used, to be of a domestic character. Captain Kerr came from Sydney about two years ago, and is well known in Auckland. He made a fortune at the Capo diamond fields, and at about the same time became the recipient of a legacy. He has since the affray been arrested, but was bailed out.
