The steamers Stormbird and Jane Douglas are inside, but it is expected the latter will be able to get out today. The barque Atlanta having landed the Wellington portion of her cargo, hauled out into the stream yesterday. She proceeds to Port Chalmers, where she will discharge the remainder. The steamerGo Ahead left on what might be called bar muden trip (as she is almost a new boat, very little of the old remaining) to the East Coast yesterday, and, as will be seen by the telegram, has realised all; expectations in regard to speed, 9j knots being averaged on the run to Napier via Castlepoint. The Union Company’s steamer Albion is due-to-morrow from Sydney via Auckland and East Coast ports. She leaves on Monday afternoon for Melbourne via Southern ports. The steamer Rangatira may be expected to arrive to-morrow from Wanganui, Taranaki, and Manukau: The ship Maravel will be berthed at the wharf'this afternoon, and commence dlscha r ging on Monday. THE SCHOONER PROGRESS. ‘ The‘schooner Progress went ashore at Mukamuka Rock, to the westward of Wairarapa Lake. It is expected ahe will become a total wreck. The crew have, however,>got «wajr .without accident. The schooner is owned by 6.' W, Owen, of Auckland but there are no further particulars to band. ! ')j [ ! ARRIVAL OF THE SHIP MARAVEL, FROM XONDON. The N.K.S. Cd.V chartered shfp Maravel, with over 309 passengers on board, arrived in harbor at 10 a.m. yesterday, after a smart. passage of 82 days from Gravesend. She is a fine iron clipper of 1237 tons register, and adaped for carrying a large number of passengers, her accommodation, as far as space, light, • and ventilation 'is concerned, being equal to any; vessel which has visited this port. The ship is under the command of Captain Ramsay, with Messrs. Boon and Sane first and second officers. Both vessel 1 and 1 officers ■ are strangers to Wellington, she having.previously been trading to the sister colonies, and latterly .to Canterbury. The passengers, all of whom arrive in excellent health, are certainly the most desirable class .which has overcome out to this colony, nearly all of whom possess means to start in business.. There was one birth, and two deaths of Infants: otherwise the voyage proved very uneventful. The Maravel. left Grave?end at 8 a.m, on the 31st October; cast tug off at 10 a.m., and proceeded down the Channel with a light easterly breeze. Landed pilot at midnight on the 2nd November. Light south-east and easterly winds, varying to south-west, till off Canary Islands, where she was becalmed for four (lays. - Picked up the north-east trades on the 20th, in latitude .25*16 west, and 17 55 west, which proved light and unsteady, and eventually gave out on the 20th in 7*16 north and 23*37 west. Thence southeast and southerly winds till crossing the Line, at midnight on the 3rd December. In I*2l south, when she had a of light variable weather, thewind veering almost round the compass within the 2* hours, which lasted to the 14th. and from thence fresh from the north-west till passing the meridian of the Cape on the 22nd. ' On the 26th she encountered a north-west gale, with terrific squalls, for 24 hours, when it moderated, and continued so till the Slat, when ifveered; Into the eastward, and then tacked into the north-east, and on January 2nd hauled to the eastward. She passed thoCrozetson tho 28th December, and Kerguelen on the 81st. Was off Capo L'-uwln on the 9tb January. The inward ball and flag signals are shown as usual from the flagstaff, also tho harbor light.
