Adelaide, Thursday.

The South Australian Parliament was opened to-day. The Governor’s speech stated that the proposed reforms in the Legislative Council would he postponed, pending a settlement of the present difficulty iu Victoria. It announced the inauguration of extensive public works—considering the colony was well able to bear an increased national debt. It was intended to introduce a measure to compel the propertied class to contribute more largely to the burden of the colon)’, thus enabling the Government to re-adjust the taxation through the Customs. A Bill would be introduced to compel the Chinese in the Northern Territory to contribute to the revenue. The Government intimated the introduction of the Bills referred to. in the Governor’s speech. Mr, Ross gave notice of a series of questions relative to the late loan and the general financial arrangements made by the Government. The House then adjourned till Tuesday next.
