THE CITY VALUATION.
We give below the valuation for each ward of the city for 1878-9, and also the valuation for 1877-8, showing the increase that has occurred during the year. The addition to the number of properties in Cook Ward is very striking, and shows how rapidly population is settling in that part of the city, but so far as increased value is concerned Lambton is close on the heels of Cook, although the number of properties has increased by but 17. Property in the business centres of the city continues to rise in value, and as brick buildings are going up the assessments must continue to advance. __ Ward, etc. : 1877-S I 1878-0 [lncrae, Cook—Rateable properties 1817 2344 ! 527 Value £47,432 £60,130 £12,704 Te Abo—Rateable properties 131 C 1394 84 ' Value £50,303 £63,007 £0,014 Lambton—Rateable properties 472 489 : 17 Value £62,740 £74,343 £11,597 TnonNDON-Eateable proper-i ties 1 851 899 48 Value j£39.709j£43,257|£3,45a
