These include the 15 acres adjoining the residence of Mr. Barton, and extend from the Hutt-road to the land fronting the sea, and forms undoubtedly the most eligible and VALUABLE PORTION OP THE PROPERTY. WORKING MEN’S TRAINS have now commenced running to PETONE, enabling tradesmen to go to and from their work, and henceforth reside on their own FREEHOLD ALLOTMENT at PETONE. THE AUCTIONEER understands that the Government, in order to encourage settlement on the line of the Hutt Railway, are favorably considering a proposal to issue monthly railway tickets to working men, at very reduced rates from the ordinary fares. This would give Wellington tradesmen, living at Petone, similar advantages to the residents at Dunedin, and which have caused the township of Ravensbourne, on the Port Chalmers Line, to become the largest and most thriving suburb of Dunedin. The Government workshops are now started in earnest, as will be apparent on inspection of the costly and extensive machinery now,being fitted up on the railway reserve at the Petone station. The machinery is well worthy of a visit, and will afford a convincing proof that Mr. Ashcroft, the enterprising Railway Mechanical Engineer, now superintending the Department, purposes to go on with important works, and find employment for a numerous body of workmen.
