A new paddle steamer named the City of Grafton arrived at Sydney on the 2nd of last month. She is described as a vessel of 529 tons register, and of the following dimensions Length between perpendiculars, 207 ft. ; beam, 27ft. ; depth of hold. lift. 6in. Her engines are constructed on the compound principle, of 164 h.p. nominal, and, we believe, speaking from correction, are the first 'of the kind that have been used In connection with a paddle boat in the Australasian waters. Her draught of water, with 400 tons cargo, is only 9 feet, while her rate of speed is 11 knots. Such a steamer as that on a smaller scale would undoubtedly be invaluable in the trade between here and the shallow bars of the West Coast. The topsailschooner Clio, Captain Chambers, arrived here from Napier, with a cargo of wool and tallow, yesterday forenoon. She left Napier on the 14th. and since then has experienced a series of hard southerly gales. The cutter Dido, Captain Shilling, from Blenheim, with a full cargo of colonial produce, arrived here yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. She left Blenheim at 6 a m. on Monday, and experienced light N.E. wind across. She will sail for the same port this afternoon'. 2 The topsail schooner Bencleugh, Captain Francis, arrived here yesterday at 4 30 p.m. from Timaru, with a cargo of produce. She left there on Saturday last, and had southerly wind to Cape Campbell, thence till arrival northerly. The s.s. Rangatira sailed for Napier and Poverty Bay at 4.15 p.m. yesterday. The schooner Aurora took her departure for the East Coast at 1 o’clock yesterday afternoon. The s.s. Napier arrived here from Foxton yesterday at 3.30 a.m. She left there at 12.30 p.m. on Monday, and called at Kapiti on the way down. She will sail again for Foxton to-day. The schooner Waihopla, from Waitapu, arrived in harbor last evening. The s.s. Ringarooma, from Melbourne via the South, will arrive here on Thursday morning. The schooner Eliza McPhee, which was ashore at Kapiti for a considerable time, arrived in harbor yesterday from Pelorus Sound. The p.s. Lyttelton sailed for Blenheim at 10 o’clock last night. i .... ;
