Lady Bowen has returned with her two daughters, and as the eldest is to “come out,” a ball in Government House is looked forward to. ■ The question of further telegraphic communication with Europe is still under consideration. Preparations are being made by the Ministry to meet Parliament. There is some talk of a want of confidence motion, but it is unlikely that the Ministry will be disturbed before the general elections in a few months time. The Stevenson case will not affect their position in the House. Fair business is being done in the markets. Wheat is very scarce. The large number of arrivals from New Zealand during the week have kept down the prices. Oat?,, sales up to 3s. 3d. for very prime milling.
