EXCURSION ON NEW YEAR’S DAY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —If the comers of the Manawatu and Stormbird would lay on these steamers for an excursion to 'Wanganui at the New Year, I am quite sure there would be a large number of excursionists take advantage of the trip. The steamers could leave here on Thursday afternoon, say after office hours, and would arrive in Wanganui on New Year’s morning; persons then could either take the usual excursion steamer up the river, or take a drive out to Patea ; but if they are more inclined for sport they could take the coaches out to Marton Races, that take place on New Year’s Day, Saturday, they could return to Wanganui, and the steamers could leave on Saturday night or Sunday morning, arriving in time for business on Monday; by this means only half Saturday would be lost, and it would afford a very fine excursion. In conclusion, I hope the owners of these boats will not lose sight of the suggestion I have made.—l am, &c.. Excursionist.
