[Press Telegraph Agenci.] Auckland, Monday, 6 p.m. The Star of the South, from Fiji, brings no news of any importance. Trade at Levuka is improving. The Sanioan merchants have arranged to establish a line of packets, of from twenty to thirty tons, to trade between Samoa and Fiji. Louis Myers, tobacconist, the Thames, has been drowned in a water-hole at Levuka, while bathing. He leaves a wife and five children at the Thames. A young lady, Miss Porch, aged twentysix, was drowned while bathing in the river Waikato at Mercer. The Good Templars held a large demonatration and a pic-nic on~Saturday. The whaling barque, -Martha, has been sold by auction for £355. Tauranga, Monday. TheTauranga regatta and athletic sports eventuated on Boxing Day in presence of a large concourse of people. They were an immense success, including an exciting war canoe race between rival tribes. There was a great gathering of natives the same day at Kati Kati, to keep up the Christmas holiday. The meeting had no political significance whatever. Everything passed off pleasantly at both places. Napier, Monday. Two boys, eleven and nine years old, sons o£ H. J. Curtice, town bandmaster, were drowned while bathing in the Titaekuri River yesterday. The elder boy was drowned in trying to save the other. The bodies are not yet found. The man cook at Mr. Russell's station was drowned in crossing the river near Havelock, An inquest is to be held to-day. Eighty pounds were taken by the railway in the excursion to Earudon and Hastings. There were the usual sports and Maori races at Havelock. The Roman Catholic school treat and pic. nic had fine weather. Mr. Eccles, a student of St. John's College Auckland, was ordained yesterday by Bishop Williams. He is to have charge of the Waipawa district. The Taupo coach upset at Pohui on Friday. Mr. Gollan was much hurt, but not seriously. There are races at Pakowhai and Hampden to-day. LYriELTOSr, Monday. The ship G-eraldine Paget, which arrived yesterday from London, brought three cabin passengers, and 389 immigrants, all well. There were ten deaths on board ; and one was drowned. Port Chalmers, Monday. The German observation party at the Auckland Islands obtained views of the transit of Veuus, both internal and exteraal contacts ; also 120 photographs. DuNEDXif, Monday. The Guardian complains that the Victorian Bench of Justices of the Peace who tried Sullivan had no right to order him to bo sent to New Zealand. The Guardian says it must have been done in ignoranco of the statute which provides that a" convict should be sent back from the last colony to which he came either to England or New South Wales. The Superintendent, on formally opening the Turkish Baths to-day, congratulated the com. pauy and the community on having the only Turkish baths in New Zealand. The Hon. W. Fox expressed himself as much pleased at seeing the opening of the baths in this, the liiost progressive city in the colony.

Isvekcahgill, Monday. A fire has occurred in the workshop of J. A. Frederick, undertaker, Dee-street. The firebrigade were promptly on the spot, and extinguished the five before any serious damage was done. The building was insured in the Norwich Union office for £IOO.
