[Press Telegraph Agency.] Auckland, Monday. A seizure has been made of twenty-five pounds of tobacco at the house of one Conley, a waterman. Miss Christian has been engaged by the Choral Society to sing the solos in the oratorio of the “ Messiah” on Wednesday night. Christchurch, Monday. On Friday the city lodges of Good Templars presented the Hon. W. Fox with an address prior to his departure for England. The National Bank forwarded from here to-day to Reefton 1920 ounces of gold, the proceeds of recent crushings from the Lyell reefs. Nelson, Monday. The first crushing of the Golden Ridge claim, Anatori, yielded 310 ounces from 130 tons of stone. Volunteers Tomlinson and Burnes only have qualified, with 97 and 85 respectively. Dunedin, Monday. John Hartley, who was knocked down by a broken lamp post when trying to stop a runaway horse on Saturday, died at the Hospital to-day from concussion of the brain. The other man who was injured has almost entirely recovered.
