THE GREAT AMERICAN CIRCUS.
On Saturday the members of this troupe had double work to perform, an afternoon’s entertainment having boon given, chiefly for the juveniles—for whom a circus always has particular attractions—-with the usual business in the evening. On each occasion the attendance was very large ; in the evening especially the marquee was filled to overflowing. On both occasions the performances were entirely satisfactory; and the leaping, the the riding, the “Wild Comanche” on his warhorse, and the graceful and extraordinary performances of Madile. Cracie and Signor Consalez on the trapeze, were all received with great delight. In the evening, in the full glare of the gas, the performances in the ring are always more attractive, and the feats of the artistes seem to be performed with greater ease and certainty than they are when the cold eye of day is upon them. We have no intention of criticising the performances act by act, but we may again say that the efforts of the two members of tho company already named really must be seen to be believed. The vaulting and somersault throwing over horses by the members of the company was very fine, Signor Consalez vaulting with ease over nine horses, throwing a somersault in extraordinary fashion as he did so. As a last feat he did with extraordinary ease and grace the very remarkable one of throwing a doublesomersault while vaulting over tho nine steeds. Dick Turpin's Ride to York, and the death of Bonnie Black Bess concluded the entertainments in the evening. Mr. King played the part of the bold highwayman very effectively ; the highly-trained mare performed her part to a marvel ; and the whole gave the greatest possible amusement and pleasure to the large audience. The Ride, we see, will be repeated this evening.
