MESSRS. JACOB JOSEPH AND CO.'s NEW STORES.
. . « On the Ist January, 1875, a new firm will commence business in this city as general merchants and commission agents, under the style of " Jacob Joseph and Co. The members of the firm are Messrs. Joseph Joseph (son of Mr. Jacob Joseph, of this city), Mr. Walter Nathan (of L. D. Nathan and Co., Auckland), and Mr. James Goldsmith (late of Bing, Harris, and Co., Dunedin), the last named gentleman being now at home buying for the firm. They are now.having erected two brick stores in Willis-street, opposite the Empire Hotel, consisting of a free store of 32ft. frontage, 56ft. high, and 80ft. in depth. There will be a cellar Sft. deep for the storage of produce, &c; a ground floor 12ft. high, containing extensive offices in front, and two upper floors, each 12ft. in height. The building will be provided with all the latest improvements in the way of fittings, and also with an hydraulic lift; there will be a large skylight in the centre of the roof, and a well through the centre of the building for light; there will also be three windows in front and back in each story. The front of the store will be stuccoed. In addition to the building just described, there will be a bondage store of 32ft.|frontage, 125 ft. depth, and 40ft. in height, containing three large floors. Both buildings are being built of brick and cement, no lime being used. When finished the two stores together will cost about £IO,OOO. They will be finished in February next; in the meantime the firm will carry on business at the old stores of J. Joseph and Co., L&jnbton-quay.
