CITY AFFAIRS.

Sib,—lt appears from the reports generally made of the proceedings of the City Conncil that many important communications connected with public business do not actually come before the public; the fact of their being read over very inarticulately, and only to be heard at a very short distance from the chair, is not sufficient.- I would suggest that wo have a City Council or Corporation Gazette, and publish everything (charge Id. for it if you like). Ratepayers will then know what is going on : they will also have an opportunity of consulting with the members of their various wards, and be able to have many grievances remedied without so much litigation. I notice at the last meeting of the Council—" inward correspondence read"— ln re B. S., "referred to members of the ward;" Mr. B—r "received;" T. C. A. '-consideration postponed;" J. J. and W. S. R. "referred to committee ;" T. and Co. "consideration postponed," &c, &c. The decision with regard to appeals against the assessment is so very vague that really no one can understand it. In point of fact it is not a satisfactory reply, neither is it in accordance with that which the deputation on that subject were led to expect. Trusting that some further facility may be given to appellants on this particular point—l am, tec, Ax Agobikved One. [We are afraid that a Corporation Gazette would be either too dull or too lively an affair, as the humor happened to seize the Council. Who would be editor of it ? The Mayor, the Clerk, or the Inspector of Nuisances?]
