CRICKET
The first match of the season —Star Club v. Armed Constabulary—was played at the Basin Reserve on Saturday afternoon. A couple of hundred spectators viewed the match, which was fairly played. The highest scores were made on the Constabulary side, viz., 14 and 12 by Messrs. Webb and Cooper respectively ; but the Stars proved too many for their opponents in fielding. Messrs. I. J. Salmon and Riissell were the lucky ones amongst the Stars, scoring 13 and 8 runs respectively. The match, which was played till after the sun had set, resulted in a victory to the Star cricketers by two runs and.eight wickets to go down. Appended is the score list : ARMED CONSTABULARY.
