THE THEATRE ROYAL.
“ CIGARETTE.” A numerous audience witnessed the sensational drama of "Cigarette” at the Theatre Royal last evening. The little hitches which occurred on its first performance were not evident last night, and the scenery worked admirably. Miss- Stephenson, -as the lively, dashing vivandiere, was not to be surpassed, and the audience testified their appreciation by frequent and vociferous applause. Mr. Burford played in his usual careful manner, aud not a little of the success of the piece is to be attributed to his rendering of the character of Bertie Cecil. Although Mr. Hydes appeared in a class of character somewhat new to him, his impersonation of Raike, the exgroom, was admirable. Miss Raymond aud MissFollaudeplayed their parts well—a remark, indeed, which applies to the whole of the performers. We cannot allow the scenery to pass unnoticed. Mr. Massey, in painting it, has excelled himself, and the audience were not slow to perceive aud appreciate the fact. The piece was well dressed, and nothing appears to have been left undone which would tend to make “ Cigarette” a decided success. The company present the play again to-night, and, no doubt, will be rewarded with a bumper house.
