WESLEYAN DISTRICT MEETING.
The morning session opened at ten o'clock yesterday. Present —Revs. W. Morley (chairman), J. Aldred, J. B. Richardson, J. Law, J. S. Smalley, J. J. Lewis, and Heteraka Warihi (native minister). The Rev. J. Aldred engaged in prayer; and the Rev. J. B. Richardson was elected secretary. Three candidates for the ministry were received, on the recommendation of the quarterly meeting, for examination. It was arranged to hold the following services during the week: —Mr. Russell to preach on Wednesday morning at six in Mannersstreet schoolroom ; the Home Missionary meeting to be held in the evening at 7.30; Mr. Luxford to preach on Thursday morning at six; in the evening at 7.30 the official sermon to be preached in Manners-street by the chairman of the district. On Priday morning at six, the Rev. J. Law to preach, and in the evening at 7.30, a meeting of the District Sunday School Union to be held. The usual questions relative to ministerial character and ability were satisfactorily answered. It was found on enquiry that the churches in the district are properly settled on the conference plan. The meeting recommended to conference that the Rev. J. J. Lewis should have rest for one year. The Rev. E. Neilsen, from Norway, who ia laboring as a home missionary amongst the Scandinavians in the colony, was recommended to conference for such help and recognition as may be deemed proper. The afternoon session began at 2.45. The Rev. J. Law offered prayer. The Rev. Heteraka Warihi gave an encouraging report of his visit to the natives in the province of Marlborough. The state of the mission under his charge was next considered.
