THE PRINCE OF WALES' BIRTHDAY.

The Prince of Wales' Birthday—a holiday, if not by statute, at least by common consent, —will be commemorated in Wellington in a very quiet manner this year. There is au entire absence of undertakings of a " national" character provided for Monday next, but the enjoyment will probably be none the less hearty, provided the weather be fine. Rural peregrinations and Botanic Garden pic-nics will undoubtedly absorb the attention of a large portion of the community ; the sports at the Basin Reserve will draw together that numerous section of the public who deem it a matter of duty to. extend their support and countenance to those exercises which assist physical development and general healthfulness ; and the marine excursions will provide enjoyment for those who usually seek relaxation on the green waters of the harbor. Special trains will convey passengers to the "fresh fields" and "pastures" of the Hutt, where the Good Templars have .arranged a day's amusement in Phillip's paddock, Waiwetu. After exhausting their exuberance in one or other of these various outlets, the Theatre Company and the California Minstrels will in the evening furnish agreeable variety to the day's transactions. There will also be a select soiree of Odd Fellows in their hall, and the Foresters will dine together at the Commercial Hotel. Trusting to the favorable feelings of that irresponsible personage the clerk of the 'weather, the inhabitants of the oity look forward to a pleasant day's enjoyment, and it is to be hoped they will not be disappointed. *
