OPERA BENEFITS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sin, —Permit me to reply to the letter signed “ Thorough Bass” which appeared in your issue of the 21st inst. Mr. Kainford is the only principal artist of the Opera Company, save Miss Alice May, who has had two benefits in New Zealand; and therefore while Mr. Hallam had only one, Mr. Vernon one, Mr. Templeton none, and Miss Lambert none, he had no claim whatever to a benefit in Wellington. It is not advisable or desirable to give benefits to all the principal artists in every town that the company visits, and my arrangements are therefore made -with a due regard to business and equity.—X am, &c., George B. Allen. Wanganui, October 24.
