SALE OF LAND.
The large sale of land, under the arrangements of the Provincial Government of Wellington, which has been for some time advertised, took place yesterday in the Provincial Chambers, Mr. Holdswortlr, Provincial Commissioner of Crown Lands, officiating as auctioneer. There was a large attendance of buyers, both from the town and country, and for some of the lots disposed of the bidding was spirited. This was particularly the case as regards the allotments on the banks of the river Wanganui, some of which were run up to a very considerable figure. The Parae Karetu block was , almost entirely neglected. There was a suspicion, however, that there was method in this apparent neglect, and that the lands will bo taken up extensively at the upset price, having once passed under the hammer. We subjoin particulars of the lots disposed of. The total sum realised by the day’s sale was £12,265 10s. WAITOTAEA DISTRICT.
