Mails close at the Chief Tost Office, Wellington, as follows: For Picton, Nelson, New Plymouth, Manukan, and Chatham Islands, per s.s. Phcebe, on Thursday, at 11 a.m. For Picton, Nelson, New Plymouth, Manukau, and America, West Indies, and Europe, via San Francisco, per s.s. Wellington, on Tuesday, 27th inst., at noon. For Napier, Castlepoint, and Poverty Bay, per s.s. Rangatira, this day, at 4 p.m. For Nelson, Westport, Greymouth, Hokitika, and Australia, per s.s. Albion, on Saturday, 24th inst., at 7 p.m. For Europe, America, West Indies via Suez (for specially addressed letters only), per s.s. Tararua, on Saturday, 24th inst., at 7 p.m. For Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, Bluff, Australia, and India, per s.s. Tararua, on Saturday, 24th inst., at 7 p.m. For Lyttelton, Port Chalmers, and Bluff, per s.s. Ladybird, on Thursday, at 3 p.m. Edward D. Butts, Chief Postmaster. The steamer Otago is expected to leave Hokitika at noon on Wednesday, the 21st instant. Telegrams for the Australian Colonies or Europe, via Java cable, will be received at tho Wellington Telegraph-office for transmission to Melbourne up till 10 a.m. of the 21st instant (to-day).
