COMMERCIAL.

The Customs duties received for the week ending October 15,1874, were as under 7 O m A

Although during the past week there has been a trifling change for the better in the weather, trade does not appear to have been affected in the same 'ratio, although the amount of business done will probably exceed to some extent that of the corresponding period of last year. There Is a general complaint of dullness, and prices of many imported goods show a disposition to give way to a small extent, especially where stocks are heavy, but as a rule prices remain without alteration. . The Cartvale, from London, has arrived with immigrants, but, being in quarantine, will not discharge cargo for some time yet. The Nightingale, from Adelaide, has brought 100 tons flour, which is offered at £lolos. to £l7 per ton; she also brings sugar, potatoes, &c., which reach a good market, the potatoes having been quitted at £7 15s. to £3 per ton immediately on arrival. In the produce market there is little change to report. Feeding grains have advanced in value, good oats being now worth ss, Gd. to Os. per bushel. Butter in kegs continue* depressed, owing to the large quantity of fresh butter coming forward at declining rates, there being no enquiry for export. Cheese is scarce and worth 9jd. per lb. Bacon and hams in moderate supply at 7d. to Is. according to condition and cure. Flour remains low, with slight prospect of improve* ment, Oamaru flour being quoted at £l3 2s. Cd. for sacks; Canterbury, £l2los. to £l3 per ton. Potatoes are in fair supply at £8 per ton. BY TELEGRAPH. CHRISTCHURCH.
