The American steamer Tuscarora has completed her work of sounding the Pacific. Sho has been engaged in it for exactly a year, and wo have the following, under date San Francisco, 2nd September, as the results of her labors :—“ The first attempt from Cape Flattery, was abandoned on account of the lateness of the season, and she made soundings on and off the coast from Cape Flattery to San Diego. From that port she struck out for Honolulu, making soundings as she went. From Honolulu she proceeded to Yokohama via Bonin Island. The deepest water found on this line was 5287 fathoms. Two lines were started from , the coast of Japan, but abandoned on account of the great depth of the water. The third line was found feasible, and a line was run to Boorile Island, one of the Aleutian group, thence run to Ounalashka and from there to Cape Flattery. The greatest depth found on this line was five and one-fourth miles."
