MELBOURNE MARKETS. (From the Arjus, September 30.) In tho import markets- to-day a moderate trade is reported in several specialities, but general business is very quiet. Breadstuff's are still moving off very quietly indeed. Bakers' lots of flour are disposed of at £l3, bags returned. There is nothing special to refer to in parcels ; £l2 15s. is generally asked, but it Is known that £l2 12s. Cd., if offered, would not bo refused. Wheat is very firm at Cs. for prime, but there is absolutely nothing offering that we can hear of. Oats arc also quieter, and with tho exception of ..what was done at auction no transactions have come before us. Under the hammer, a parcel of IC7 bags was disposed of at ss. lid. for ordinary feeding. Maize is better, the clearance at 4s. lOd. by one buyer of the entire cargo per African Maid, offered publicly, having had the effect of imparting some degree of firmness. Sugars are in fair request, but there is nothing reported in the way of sales outside the auction room. The cargo of Java, per Alexandrine, was submitted to competition in the forenoon, but only a portion could be got rid of; 3fllS mats were disposed of, when whites with a tinge of grey brought 335. 9d. to 31s. 3d., and yellow counters realised 31s. to 31s. 3d New teas still continue to monopolise attention. Further transactions are reported; 2450 packages ex Mangerton, Korsor,. and Legislator, have been taken up at prices rising from Is. Id. to Is. 5d.. and up to 2s. The damaged teas ex Mangerton will be sold by auction to-morrow. Kerosene oil is very depressed. Under the hammer, Is. 3d. had to be taken for Devoc, and not much could be sold even at that. For Diamond, over Is. 2d. could not be got. The run upon hops still continues. Wc learn of quittance of 190 pockets Tasmanian lS73's at Is. 2d to Is. 3d.; 50 pockets Kent 1 73’s hhvc also been placed at Is. 7cl. to Is. lOd. for good to best, and a parcel of inferior was sold at Is. 3d. The sales of timber comprise 115 logs cedar ex Mary Grant, which realised 14s. Gd. to 2Gs. 9d. In brandies, we learn of the quittance in parcels of 150 quarters—Hennessy’s—at 9s. 4d. to 9s. 4kl. 100 packages Associated Vineyard were disposed of publicly at Gs. Sd.
