THE OPERA.

DEB FSEISCHUTZ. * This famous opera was repeated last night to a-full house. The incantation scene caused as much excitement and applause as on previous occasions, and was very effectively worked out. At its close Messrs. Eainford, Hallam, and Willis received a call. The leading partssustained as before—were all admirably performed, and the opera was rendered throughout with the success which now characterises every effort of the company. For the last few nights, however, there has been a noticeable tendency in the chorus to go astray. This is unusual and can be checked very easily. A little care and attention on the part of those engaged will doubtless bring back the excellence for which the choruses were distinguished last season. To-night, "Maritana" will be played, and ■ as it is the occasion of Miss Lambert's first benefit in New Zealand there will, we hope, be a bumper house. Miss" Lambert is a most conscientious artist, and well deserves a substantial compliment at the hands of the public. The opera is so well known and so popular that it is unnecessary to recount its plot or refer to its leading features. Miss Lambert has, by an ever careful study of. her work, and a most creditable desire to please the audience, attained a well-merited popularity, and earned a befitting acknowledgement at the hands of the public.
