THE OPERA.
The Theatre Koyal wa3 not so well attended on Saturday night as ureal, but that fact does not tend in any way to show that the popularity of the opera company 33 not maintained; on the contrary it is increasing. Although the company play " Genevieve de Brabant" excellently, and make the very most of the music and the work generally, they have little to thank the author for, nor does the adaptation and arrangement reflect much credit on Mr. Garnet Walch. The plot is weak, the amusing parts flat, and the whole a disappointment. No fault could be found with its representation, for it was played with the spirit and ife which Offenbach's works require, and all made the most of their parts. To-night, a very fidl house may be expected, as the splendidly effective opera "DerFreichutz" will be produced. It is only necessary to remind the public of the great success of this opera during the last season, when the scenery and effects were splendidly put on the stage, and the opera grandly played.
