[from our own correspondent.] Castlepoint, Tuesday. The Maungapakiaka Bridge is washed away, and all traffic is stopped. [Press Telegraph Agency.] Grettown, Tuesday. The flood covered the town again yesterday. O'Meara's house is altogether gone. The family and furniture were previously removed. The water is rising again this morning. The rain . continues and traffic is suspended. Masterton 'is flooded by the Waipoua. The Ruamahunga Bridge at Te Ore Ore is injured, and miles of fencing are destroyed near Masterton. There i» great loss of cattle and sheep throughout the district. The Waihenga Bridge is all right, but Borne small bridges beyond are gone. All the culverts and bridges in Grey town are more or less damaged. ' Grahamstown, Tuesday. A slight gale blew during the night. The. Tararu wharf suffered, but not to a serious extent. A high tide flooded the streets and damaged the gardens along the beach. By the appearance of the weather, the gale is not yet spent. Christchurcb, Tuesday. Very heavy rains during the past fortnight. Rain fell almost incessantly on Sunday morning and Monday night. Several rivers overflowed their banks, but no serious damage has been done yet. It is still raining. Most of the unbridged rivers are impassable. The Waimakariri has overflowed its banks, arid flooded most parts of the town of Kaiapoi, and has damaged the northern,railway line at two places, causing a temporary suspension of traffic. There is no sign of the • weather clearing up. G-reymocth, Tuesday. A gale of wind was blowing last night. The Waipara is high and dry, and will require launching 400yds. The river is flooded —the protective works preventing any damage to Greymouth. There are serious encroachments at Cobden, where the Grey is running immediately behind the" houses in the main street. Several buildings are in course of removal. Westport, Tuesday. The river rose rapidly at 4.30 a.m., but little damage was done -compared with former floods. The chief encroachment is at the corner of Molesworth Street. The old Times office, Falla's store, and some cottages are now being pulled down. The stone groin at Nelson Street has saved the' lower part of the township. The Orawaiti 'river is flooded. News was received last night from the Lyell of a flood there. , Timabd, Tuesday. Heavy weather has prevailed for the last few days. The rivers, both north and south, are in high flood. The northern approach to the Opihi Bridge has been washed away, and also the embankment of the Tengawai River. Hokitika, Tuesday. It has been raining heavily for four days. So far no accident has been reported. The mails are stopped. Port Chalmers, Tuesday. The body found yesterday has been identified as that of James Smith, of the ship Corona, who attempted to swim ashore from the vessel, on the 30th of August last, with the help of a ladder.
