[Press Telegraph Agency.] Auckland, Friday. Francis Regan, a labourer on the Waikato railway, was riding on one of the trucka of a ballast train, and lost his balance. He fell over, and several trucks passed over his body. When picked up he was found to be dead. Alexandra, Friday. The Waipa is now flooded higher than at any time this winter. To a groat extent the crops at Ropua and other settlements ai - e under water. Te Reinga Miawhiri's daughter is near here, en route for Auckland, to visit the chief Paul. Sophia, the King's sister, is also here, TAURANGA, Friday. The Cambridge and Taupo survey is completed to Niho te Kiori district. The engineer and the survey party are returning here immediately. Wanoandi, Friday. Mr. Churton has been elected Mayor without opposition. Christchuroii, Friday. At a meeting of cricketers last night, held to consider the proposed visit of ft "Victorian cloven, there was a very influential attendance, and the project was warmly approved. A committee waß appointed to obtain particulars of the probable expenses, and to see what subscriptions could bo obtained, and to confer with the Dunedin cricketers on the matter.
Nelson, Friday. There was a fire brigade demonstration last night. The brigade formed a torchlight procession from the port, accompanied by the Artillery Volunteers and band. They paraded the town, and then dined at the Masonic Hotel. The Superintendent was in the chair and the Mayor in the vice-chair. The Governor and Captain Simpson, of the Blanche, were present as guests. The Governor in returning thanks for his health made some very sarcastic remarks in reference to the frequency of fires and the want of appliances for extinguishin"- them in Auckland. The whole affair was a great success.
