THE SALE OF UNRECLAIMED SECTIONS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sxh, —Will you be kind enough, throughyortr journal, to inform the citizens whether there is not some restraining power to stop the Superintendent from selling wholesale the unreclaimed' land on Thermion Quay to any speculator who may choose to buy 1 the same ? The land in question will, ere long, become the most valuable part of the City ; aud as Provincialism has heard its doom, and the land must inevitably revert to the City, I think it is the duty of the Municipal Council to remonstrate against such spoliation, . : If this land falls into the hand .of , some private person or company it may cost the City no end of trouble, as it may, nay, is sure to, interfere with the laying out of streets, squares, and other public endowments, as well as the sewerage and other tilings which are greatly wanted. I heard the other day that the Provincial Government intended selling all they could at any price, while they had the chance ; but I hope the City Council and citizens will do all in their power to put a stop to this transaction. The Provincial Government have not the excuse that -they have expended Provincial funds on this, and so say the City must' purchase it if they will have it. -The City Council have no right to purchase that whicli by right belongs to them, so I hope it will be seen to ex*e it is too late.—l am, &c.. Conservator. Wellington, September 10.
