BOTTLE LICENSES.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Am I to understand that henceforth bottle licenses for the sale of spirituous liquors are to be issued in Wellington ? If such is the case it will be a boon to those who cannot afford to buy their wines and spirits by the dozen. lam quite aware of all the arguments that have been brought up in connection with this license, and my opinion is, after many years’ experience, that a bottle license as they have it in Melbourne is in preference to the present system in Wellington. I object to the Dunedin system of bottle licenses, the fee being too small. If the same fee was charged as in Melbourne, viz., £3O, two-thirds of those at present holding bottle licenses in Dunedin would never think of applying for them, and those would be the small grocers in the outlying streets, who are the cause of all the objections being brought against the bottle license. For the information of those concerned would you be kind enough to say if bottle licenses are to be granted in Wellington ? when ? and what is to be the fee ?—I am, &c., Inquirer. Wellington, September 14. [The subject is one regarding which we must confess profound ignorance.]
