The following example will illustrate the practical advantages and working of this Society. A member purchases a house for £2OO, for which he had paid a rent of 12s. per week, or £3l Is. 6d. per annum. He pays £SO of the purchase-money, and borrows £l5O from this Society, to be repaid in six years. His weekly payment is now 12s. Gd.—or £32 10s. per annum, which multiplied by six (the number of years for which he borrows) is ; £195 0 0 The rent of his house for six years would have been ... 187 4 0 Balance... ... ... 7 16 0 To which, add the amount he paid 50 0 0 The actual cost of the house is only £57 10 0 It will at once be seen that a profit of £ll2 •4s. is made by the purchaser becoming a member of this Society, and that this amount would have been lost to him, had he not become a member but remained a tenant. When it is considered that, for the short term of six years, the small sum of only sixpence per week in addition to the rent ; and for a longer term the rent itself, or even far less ; is sufficient to purchase the property, it is evident that this Society will confer great benefits on all who become Borrowing Members. While the payment of rent, oven for a life time, confers no title upon the tenant, the payment of the same amount into this Society gives the member, in a few years, the absolute Freehold. Nothing farther need be said to prove the extremely liberal principles on which this Society is founded. The following is the scale of weekly payments : INVESTING TABLE. a. £ a. d. £ 3. d. 0 8 0 12 0 10 0 2 00 1 00 1 3 01003 00 2 0 0 11 0 13 0 10 0 19 m o 10 0 12 0 14 0 10 0 18 ,0 0 00 6 0 070003 090070 0 10 0 12 0 IS 0 15 0 10 0 IS REALISING TABLE Scale of Repayments.
