AUCKLAND. August 20.—Sailed : Hero, s.s., for Sydney. NAPIEE. August 20.—Sailed: Southern Cross, for Auckland. The Kangatira sails for Poverty Bay to-night. LYTTELTON. August 20.—Arrived : 12.1 S p.m.—Ladybird, from "Wellington. Sailed: Ladybird, for the South, at 2.30 p.m. FOET CHALMERS August 20.—Sailed : Otago. for Lyttelton, at 4 p.m. Easby, s.s., for Newcastle. Koslyn Castle, barque, for Portland, British Columbia. The s.s. Otago left Lyttelton for Wellington at -1.30 p.m. yesterday, so that she'may be expected here about 10 o'clock this morning. The s.s. Wellington arrived at the -wharf about 1 a.m. yesterday, having been much longer than usual coming up from Lyttelton, owing to the heavy gale that was blowing. She left Port Chalmers at 4.15 p.m. on the 10th ; arrived at Lyttelton at 10 p.m. on the 17th : left at 5 p.m. on the 18th, arriving as above. Experienced strong north-east gale, with heavy sea, throughout the passage. The s.s. Waipara comes off .the patent slip this afternoon; and as soon a 3 she is launched, Messrs. Turnbull and Co.'s s.s. Stormbird will be taken up to be cleaned and painted. She will be launched again 'on Monday morning, and then resume her trade with Wanganui. - The Napier arrived at Foxton yesterday. Owing to theheavygaleon the lflth' she would most probably have sought shelter under Mana or Kapiti. She leaves IVxton to-day, bringing a cargo of sleepers for Messrs. Brogden. The steamer Omeo arrived at Nelson at 4.30 p.m. on the 19th, thus occupying from IT to IS hours on a trip which under ordinary circnmstances should take her from 10 to 12, She met with a tremendously heavy north-west gale in the Strait, with a great head sea, which continued until approaching the French Pass. The remaining number of the immigrants, ex Reichstag, from Hamburgh, were landed from the Island by the p.s. Luna yesterday afternoon. The Clutha Leader says :—" The recovering party of the wreck Surat, have abandoned her, they considering that further efforts are useless, as she is fast breaking up." New Zealand Shipping Company.—A late number of the London Times states that the New Zealand Shipping Company (Limited), of London and Christchurch, New Zealand, have, in consequence of the company being a Colonial one, and wishful to have their ships called after the Native names of the rivers of New Zealand, given notice that it is their intention to anply to the Board of Trade, under section 0 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1871, to change the name 3 of their 3hips. The ship Dorette, 870 tons, is to be registered under the name of Waimea; the Hindostan, 833 tons, is to be changed to Waitara; the Scimitar, 1225 tons, to the Eangltikei; and the Dungillan, 803 ton 3, to the Mataura.
