NAPIEE. August 19.—Arrived: 12.80 a.m.— s.s. Kangatira, from Wellington ; s.s. Southern Cross, from Auckland. The s.s. Eangatira sails for Poverty Bay at five p.m. to-morrow. AUCKLAND. August 19. —Arrived : Phcebe, s.s., at Onehunga, from the South. Dauntless, from New Caledonia. Sailed: Cyphrenes, for Sydney; Kate McGregor, for Napier. LYTTELTON. August 19.—Arrived: Dorette, and Australian' Sovereign from Newcastle. Sailed: s.s. Atrato, Captain Husband, for London via the Capo of Good Hope. She has a cargo consisting of 910 bales of wool, 340 bales of flax, 15,228 sacks of grain, SO tons of tallow, ISII packages of preserved meats, 15 cases sundries, and 5500 ounces of gold. POET CHALMEES. August 19. —Arrived : Otago, s.s., at 7 a.m. from the Bluff. ' Sailed: Star of the South, s.s., for the North; Bobycito, for Newcastle; and Marion (Marmion ?) for ■Wellington. The s.s.. Ladybird, Captain Andrews, arrived at the wharf at 7 a.m. yesterday from Northern ports. She left Manukau at noon on the 16th ; arrived at Taranaki at 8 a.m. on the following day ; sailed again at 5.30 a.m.; reached Nelson at 1 a.m. on the 18th; sailed at noon ; arrived at Picton at 10 p.m. the same day, eailed at 1 a.m. on the 19th for Wellington, where she arrived Bix hours afterwards. Experienced fine weather until crossing the Strait, when it was rather rough. The Ladybird sailed again for Southern ports at five o'clock yesterday evening. Messrs. W. and G. Turnbull and Co., s.s. Stormbird will not sail for Wanganui, as advertised, this morning, as it has been determined to place her on the Slip to undergo a thorough cleaning. She will resume her usual trips on Monday, the 24th inst. The s.s. Stormbird arrived in harbor at a very early hour yesterday morning. She left Wanganui at 1.30 p.m. the previous day, and experienced light winds and thick weather on the passage. The p.s. Manawatu arrived at the wharf shortly after one o'clock yesterday, haying made a very quick run down from Wanganui, which port she left at one a.m. the same day. She reports strong northwest winds on the passage. ' The schooner Mabel Jane, which started for the Auckland Islands, has returned to Eiverton., It is expected that Dr. Monckton will make another effort to reach the islands. It is proposed to lengthen the Port Chalmers wharf by 70 or 100 feet, and to extend it round Observation Point.
