Cleared: Northampton and Ballochmyle, for San Francisco; Corrido, for Melbourne. Messrs. McMeckan and Blackwood’s s.s. Omeo, Captain Calder, arrived at twelve o’clock last night, after a prolonged passage from Lyttelton. She sailed from Lyttelton at midnight on the 15th. Experienced strong northerly gale, which set up a heavy sea. Made Capo Campbell light at 6 p.m. on iTfch. arriving off the Heads at 10 p m., and made fast to the wharf at 11.30 p.m. She brings forty tons of cargo and three horses for Wellington. She will sail again this evening. , ~ The earlier arrivals yesterday were the schooners Marmion from Kaipara, with timber, and the Mary Ellen from Napier, in ballast. The departures yesterday were the steamers Manawatu and Rangatlra, for their regular trading ports. Yesterday afternoon a number of the immigrants ex Reichstag were brought off from the Island, by the p.s. Luna. It is expected that the remainder, about 50, will be brought off this week. Mr. E, Pearce has added another of the fine and much admired Auckland built crafts to the shipping Of this port, in the schooner Marmion, 92 tons, which arrived yesterday from Kaipara, with timber. The Marmion is a new, vessel, having made, previous to her present trip, only one voyage, which was to Lyttelton and New Caledonia. She is intended for the timber trade, for which her adaptability is proved by her present cargo from Kaipara of over 64,000 feet of timber. Her price was £2200. •The barque Freetrader has finished discharging her cargo of shingles, palings, and other sawn timber, and has cleared for Hobart Town, whence she will sail on the first opportunity, The barque Heversham is now taking in ballast, and will sail for Newcastle at an early date. The ship Reichstag is now taking in ballast. The schooner Marmion, which arrived in harbor about half-past five o'clock yesterday morning, left Kaipara on Tuesday, the Hfch inst. On the 12th light variable weather was experienced, which continued until the 13th, when a light N.N.E. breeze sprang up and continued until the 14th ; a strong easterly wind was then encountered. On the night of the 14th she reached Farewell Spit, and* beat through to Jackson’s Head ; was nearly calmed all day Sunday. At night a northerly breeze sprang up, which brought her up at the time mentioned. The schooner Melanie and the brigantine Hannah Broomfield arrived at Kaipara on the 11th inst. At Kaipara the barque Moss Glen is now loading for China. The Elderslie, a large three-masted schooner, and the Craig EUachie, are also loading there for Southern ports. It was thought that the Signal Station at Mount Victoria would probably denote a ship at the Heads this morning. On Sunday night one was seen by the schooner Marmion in the Strait, and kept with her from Mana to Terawiti,' when she stood away. The natural conclusion was that the ship was bound for this port, as, if making for Lyttelton, she would not have come so far up as Terawiti. She was never close enough to the schooner for the latter to make her out, but the Omeo has since seen her making for the South, so that she is evidently for Lyttelton. The Poverty Bay Herald calls attention to the rapidity with which the Waimata River is shallowing at the mouth. This is a serious matter for the port of Gisborne, and unless remedied, may seriously affect the trade of that rising town.
