THE ALPINE QUARTZ MINING COMPANY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —On perusing the Nelson Evening Mail of the 17th instant, I find a let ter inserted concerning the management of the Alpine Quartz Gold Mining Company (Registered), whereby it appears the affairs of the mine have been misrepresented in the Government Gazette, thus misleading those interested, or likely to be interested. As it is a serious matter of importance to reefing communities in general, and more especially those interested at a distance, would you, sir, be kind enough to inform me if there is any Government officer appointed to investigate such matters; or do the Government take cognizance of such gross abuse of such an important document as the Gazette is supposed to be ?—I am, &c,, Shareholder. Nelson, 28th July, 1874. [“ Shareholder" should communicate with the Colonial Secretary.]
