THE MINISTERIAL RESOLUTIONS.

Notice has been given of the following amendments to be moved in the course of the debate on the Ministerial resolutions with reference to Provincialism in the North Island : Mr. Thompson, to move : That while admitting that the question of the abolition of Provincialism in the North Island is one of very great importance, yet, as the distinguishing feature in the administration of the present Government has been the policy of Public Works, any proposal that may result in a change of Government should be based on the merits or administration of this policy, or at least something connected with it. That asduring the last and present sessions there has been no organised opposition, the leaders of which might constitutionally be expected to take the place of the retiring Administration, the present is an inoj>portune time for any member of the House, and especially any member of the Government, to take action which may result in seriously retarding the progress of the Colony; and that any division that may take place on the question of the abolition of Provincialism in the North Island connot, under the circumstances, be considered as a fair index of the mind of the House on the question. Mr. Wakefield, to move : That until a sufficient period shall have elapsed for appreciating at their just value the yet undeveloped results of the Immigration and Public Works i Policy, on which the present Government | bases its claims to the confidence of this i House, it would, be premature, and therefore j unwise, to disturb in any way_ the Provincial i organisations of the Colony, iu co-operation with which that policy has hitherto been, administered.
