[Press Telegraph Agency.] Greyuodtu, Monday. Good reports continue to be received from the Greenstone rush. Sixteen claims have been bottomed, and parties are at work in them with excellent prospects. The Rev. Father Belliard, who left for Christchurch to-day, was presented with a very valuable gold watch. Yesterday he was presented with an illuminated address. Christchurch, Monday. Mr. Montgomery was to-day re-elected for Akaroa without opposition. Lyttelton, Monday. Another batch of the Northampton’s immigrants were released from quarantine to-day. Taueanoa, Monday. The Luna arrived at 5 p.m. yesterday. She was placed between the buoys in the harbor, and landed the Government monument to deceased friendly Maketu Natives. She left at 11 at night for the East Cape, Poverty Bay, Napier, and Wellington. Dunedin, Monday. It is understood that Mr. Maccassey has been summoned to appear before the WardChapman Committee, and that he goes North by next steamer. Napier, Monday. The man Milne, supposed to have been drowned in the Maone River, has turned up all right. Mr. Inspector Scully has apprehended the two men supposed to have assaulted Mr. Ashley. They are not supposed to have been concerned in the sticking up of the boy at Paki-Paki. The assault case will be investigated next Thursday. On Saturday night a young man and woman were “ stuck up ” on the Shakespeare Road ; but, an alarm being given, the assailants at once ran off. An increase in the police force here seems to be much required.
