[Press Telegraph Agency.] Auckland, Monday. At the official declaration of the poE at Waitemata, Mr. Yon der Heyde was declared elected by a majority of sixty. He proceeds South on Wednesday. Westport, Monday. There were unprecedented high tides on Saturday and Sunday. The lower part of the town was flooded, the sea encroaching a long distance. Houses in Kennedy Street were rendered untenable, and more of the river bank was destroyed on Sunday. A woman named Minnie Benzie attempted suicide by drowning; but was rescued pluckily by WiEiam Nathbur, who plunged into the flooded river, and brought her senseless ashore. Christchurch, Monday.
