Albion sails for Wellington at 0.30. Arrived; Syren, from London ; Corrido, from Picton ; Mary Webster, from Kaipara, .'The R.M.S. Cyphrenes, which sailed from Lyttelton at 2 p.m. on Thursday, arrived at an early hour yesterday morning. The mails were landed with great despatch by the agents being on the wharf in less than five minutes after the steamer dropped anchor. Stores were taken in during the day, including some fifty sheep, and after receiving mails, passengers, &c., she sailed again shortly after four o’clock. The s.s. Ladybird arrived at the wharf at seven o’clock yesterday morning. She reports of the trip as follows:—Left Manukau at 0 a.m. on the 2Sth; arrived at Taranaki at 7 a.m., and sailed at 10 p.m. on the 29th, arriving at Nelson at 6 a.m., and sailed again at 1 p.m. on the 30th. Reached Picton at 8 p.m. the same’night; sailed at 1.30 a.m on the 31st, and arrived aa above. Experienced fine weather throughout the passage.' . , ~ X t . A brigantine was signalled at the Mount v ictona station yesterday afternoon, but np to a late hour she had not arrived inside. ■ The three-masted schooner Melanie, which was disabled through running into the wharf some few weeks ago on her arrival here, • has been undergoing a thorough overhaul at the Patent Slip. Aloft, she has had almost all new rigging supplied, and her masts have been reduced, which makes a considerable alteration in her appearance. She is coming alongside the wharf to-day to take in cargo for Kaipara, whence she is to sail with the first fair wind. Captain Creagh, master of the Melanie, expresses great satisfaction with the manner in which Mr. Thirkell has camed-oufr the work through the past bad weather. The p.s. Mlanawafcu arrived early yesterday morning from Wanganui, having left at 10 a.m. the previous day. After landing ‘ her passengers she went round to the Patent Slip and towed the Rangatira to the wharf. The Rangatira came off the Slip yesterday morning aftei' "having received a thorough cleaning and overhauling. She is announced to sail to-day for Castle Point, Napier, and Poverty Bay. •The harbor and wharf presented an unusually lively and bustling, appearance yesterday, with the numerous arrivals and departures of shipping. At one time during the day there were no less than seven steamers in- the harbor, viz., the Cyphrenes, Wellington, Ladybird, Manawatu, Tararua, Rangatira, and Napier. f The - Amateur/ says the Marlborough Express, has turned up safely at Foxton; whence her master telegraphed, to-say., that -ha bore up to the bar twice, second”time'leaking, and ran into Queen Charlotte Sound.” . ' J. Brogden & Sons have sent down, per Taranaki, two (livers, for the purpose of saving the railway iron out of .the p.s. Paterson. They have brought with them a diving apparatus belonging to the New Zealand Insurance Company, which has been lent for thc-purpose. During yesterday some of the cargo was taken out, and Captain Kennedy reports that,-when lightened, there Is every probability of the vessel being got off. Her bottom appears to be but little injured. —Taranaki Herald. The Waipaua.— An action, arising out of the recent stranding of the Waipara, was tried in the Greymtmth’Courf,~M ‘Tuesday weekT' The contractor for launching the boat l sued Captain Bascand for the sum of £49 -10 s. for delay in the completion of their contract, alleged ;to have beep caused by defendant's action. It appeared that Captain Bascand obtained leave from the contractors to : effect some repairs to the boat' whilst she was ashore, and on this ground the defence was based. . Judgment was given for defendant with costa. ;
