Government Notices. T O CONTRACTORS. The TELEGRAPH COMMISSIONER is prepared to RECEIVE TENDERS for the SUPPLY and DELIVERY of EIVE HUNDRED (500) TELEGRAPH POLES, more or less, for a line of Telegraph between the Town of Eoxtou and the Town of Palmerston North. The poles to be sawn from the heart of totara. * The poles to be of the following dimensions : —Twenty-five (25) and twenty (20) feet long in proportions hereinafter to be determined, but the greater portion will bo twenty (20) feet long, to bo eight (8) inches square at the butt, and six (6) inches square at the top. The polos to be sound, straight, and free from shakes, knots, and sap. N.D. No pole will he accepted which contains the least sap or speckled timber, and should any pole be brought on to the ground not in accordance with the specification, the same will be cut in half prior to being rejected. The poles will have to be delivered at points not less than four (4) chains apart, along a line of telegraph to be hereafter more particularly indicated "by pegs, which will follow, as a rule, along the present tramway from Eoxton to Palmerston north. The delivery of the poles to commence on the Ist September, 1874, and the whole to be delivered within three (3) months of the date of signing the contract, under a penalty of five (£6) pounds per diem for every day beyond the time specified, which penalty will be recoverable from the contractor from any sums that may be, or become, due to him under his contract. Progress payments will be made at the rate of eighty (SO) per cent, as the works advance, the balance on completion of contract. The contractor will not bo allowed to let or sub-let his contract without the consent in writing of the Telegraph Commissioner, or of the person authorised by him to act on his behalf. Tenders are to specify the price per pole as per sizes given. Each tender to be accompanied by a deposit of fifty pounds (£SO) as a guarantee of good faith, which sum null bo forfeited by any tenderer, should he refuse to take up his tender in the event of its being accepted. Each tender must include the names of two sureties for approval, who are willing to become bond for the due performance of the contract in the event of the tender being accepted, and must be accompanied by a notification to the effect, signed by the two proposed sureties. Tenders endorsed, “ Tender for the Supply of five hundred (500) Poles, more or less, for Telegraph Lines between Eoxton and Palmerston “North,” and addressed “The General Manager, Telegraph Department, Wellington,” must be sent in not later than the Ist August next. Notice is hereby given that 47,000 acres, more or less, of Crown Lands, divided into Suburban and Rural Sections; situated in the PARAE-KARETU BLOCK, West Coast, and distant ten miles from the township of Marion, Upiper Rangitikei, will be sold by public auction, at this office, on or about Ist September. The Parae-Karetu Block, hereafter to be called, “Tho Township of Hunter,” is easily accessible both from Wanganui and Raugitilcei. Part of the land is covered with open bush, while that in tho Pourewa Valley and also on the Turakina side consists of level country. Eurther information will be given in future advertisements. JOS. THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT OE CANTERBURY will receive applications from SURVEYORS and ROAD ENGINEERS, who may desire to obtain appointments under the Provincial Government in the Survey Department. They must be addressed to the Hon. tiro Minister for Public Works, and marked outside, “Tender, Westport Contract.” Plans and specifications may been seen at this office, and at the Public Works Offices, Westport and Groymouth, on the arrival of the first mail leaving after this date.
