MELBOURNE MARKETS. (From the Argus, July 15.) In the import market only a fair amount of business has been transacted to-day. Breadstuffs are without animation, and only a very trifling business is done. For bakers' lots we do not now quote over £l3 15s. to £l4. bags returned. There is no disposition on the part of dealers to enter upon transactions of any extent, but we leani of a moderate parcel having changed hands at £l3 ss. AVheat is inactive, but quotations of prime quality arc maintained at os. 2d. to os. 3d. In oats, no special business has como before us beyond what transpired at auction, when about 1200 bushels Tasmanian were quitted at 4s. IOJd. to ss. ss. 2d., but for milling qualities over ss. 4d. could scarcely now be got. Maize is improving : stocks are not heavy, and 4s. Od. is generally asked. The auction sale of sugar was the chief feature in the day's trade. The entire cargo of the Emily was offered, when 5137 bags were disposed of. Rations were placed at £23 15s. ; browns, at £2B; low counters, at £3O ss. to £3O 10s. : yellow counters, at £3l to £32 10s. ; browing crystals, at £32 to £33 ; greyish whites, at £33 ; and whitish counters, at £34, A line of fifty bales of cornsacks has, we understand, changed hands at 10s. Od. For hops there is no inquiry, and sales are most difficult to make : 100 pockets 1873'5, offered as per bulk, by auction, were cleared off at lOd. Candles are in moderate request; 900 boxes were got rid of publicly at IOJd. to 10Jd. Quicksilver is still advanccing, and holders now ask 7s. The timber sales chiefly comprise lumber. Scotch flooring, red and white, realised from 10s. Od. and 10s. 9d. to 13s. 3d. to 13s Od.; and beaded brought Cs. Od. to Bs. Od. White pine sold at £lO ss. ; W. P., T. and G., at £9 ss. to £9 12s. Od. ; carpenters' clear at £8 2s. Cd. to £8 ss. Laths brought 255. 3d. In liquids there is nothing to report in brandies, with the exception of the quittance of 100 quarters Associated Vineyard at (Is. 9d. We loam that the agents for J. and R. Tennent have been informed that when the last mail left their stock of matured beer was almost exhausted, and they would be unable to ship again to this market before the middle of July, when tho new brew, it was expected, would bo matured and ready for bottling, the quality promising to be very superior. Quotations are maintained at 10s. Od. for parcels. A meeting of creditors in the estate of Messrs. Samuel House & Co., grain merchants, Melbourne, has been held. A balance-sheet was submitted, showing— Unsecured liabilities, £IO,SOO : assets, £7,300 ; deficiency, £3,500. An offer of 30s. in the £ was made for the estate, and Messrs. Lord, Greigh and Beaver were appointod to examine the accounts and report to a future meeting on the propriety of accepting the same. The meeting was adjourned until another day for their report. NEW ZEALAND HEMP. Messrs. G. and J. A. Noblo, London, report on Ist June : Since our last issue we have had an all-round flat, drooping, market, principally accounted for by some fresh arrivals, the Whitsuntido holidays, advice of holders to clear out broken parcels, and but little disposition on the part of buyers to stock during a period of dull country trade. Quotations will bo as follows:—Common, £ls per ton ; fair, £lB 10s. to £l9 per ton ; good, £2l per ton ; fine, £2O per ton. Tow, £9 to £lO per ton. Landings for May, 1873. 505 tons; 1874, 230 tons. Deliveries for Mav, 1573,117 tons ; 1874, 202 tons. Stock Ist June, 1573, 1037 tons; 1874, 2490 tons. The following are tho particulars of some of the public sales sinco our last:—Electra— BB &.
