CONTRACTORS. prepared to RECEIVE TENDERS for the SUPPLY and DELIVERY of FIVE HUNDRED (500) TELEGRAPH POLES, more or less for a line of Telegraph between the Tow of Foxton and the Town of Palmeraton North. The poles to be sawn from the heart of The poles to be of the following dimensions : —Twenty-five (25) and twenty (20) feet long in proportions hereinafter to bo determined, but the greater portion will be twenty (20) feet long, to be eight (S) inches square at the butt, ancf six (6) inches square at the top. The poles to be sound, straight, and free from shakes, knots, and sap. N.B.— No pole will he accepted which contains the least sap or s redded timber, and should any polo b brom'ht on to the ground not in accordance w*ith°the specification, the same will be- cut in half prior to being rejected. The poles will have to be delivered at points not less than four (4) chains apart, along a lme of telegraph to be hereafter more particularly indicated by pegs, which will follow, as a rule, along the present tramway from Foxton to Palmorstou north. The delivery of the poles to commence on the Ist September, 1574, and the whole to be delivered within three (3) months of the date of signing the contract, under a penalty of five (£5) pounds per diem for every day beyond tho time specified, which penalty will bo recover- '■• ' —i the contractor from any sums that iv become, due to him under his contract. Progress payments will bo made at the rate of eighty (80) per cent, as the works advance, the balance on completion of contract. The contractor will not be allowed to let or sub-let his contract without the consent in writing of the Telegraph Commissioner, or of the person authorised by him to act on his behalf. Tenders are to specify the price per pole as Each tender to be accompanied by a deposit of fifty pounds (£SO) as a guarantee of good faith, which sum will be forfeited by any tenderer, should he refuse to take up his tender in the event of its being accepted. Each tender must include the names of two sureties for approval, who are willing to' become bond for the due performance of the ™„tract in the event of the tender being epted, and must be accompanied by a notification to the effect, signed by the two proposed sureties. Tenders endorsed, " Tender for the Supply of five hundred (500) Poles, more or less, for Telegraph Dines between Foxton and Palmerston North," and addressed "The General Manager, Telegraph Department, Wellington," must be sent in not later than the Ist August next.
