WHITTEN TENDERS will be received at this office up to NOON on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 1874, for the erection of a BRIDGE over the WAIKATO RIVER at NEWCASTLE. They must be addressed to the Hon. the Minister for Public Works, and marked outside, “Tender, Waikato Bridge.” Plans and specifications may be seen at this office, and at the Public Works Offices, Auckland and Newcastle, on the arrival of the first mail after this date. Telegraphic tenders, similarly addressed and marked, will be received, if presented at any telegraph office by NOON of the same date, provided that written tenders in due form are lodged at a District or Resident Engineex*’s office by the same hour. The objects of the Society are to purchase live stock from the farmers and settlers of the Province of Wellington, to slaughter them, and to supply its members with joints at the lowest price possible ; to sell to the retail butchers live animals and carcases, to preserve meat for exportation, if desirable ; and to break up the existing monopoly in supplying the inhabitants of tbe City with meat. The services of an experienced stock buyer and practical meat preserver are proffered, and premises for the Society’s operations are secured under offer. The co-operation of all classes is solicited. 1000 shares are already subscribed. A meeting of intending shareholders will be. held at the Odd Fellows’ Hall side room, on Monday, the 27th of July, instant, at 8 o’clock, p.m., to elect a Committee.
