GEORGE THOMAS has received instructions from A. S. Allan, Esq., Registrar of the Supremo Court, Wellington, to sell by auction, on Friday, July 24th, at his auction room, — . All that piece and parcel of LAM) (firstly described), situate in and being part of section numbered 25 (twenty-five) on the plan of the Hutt District, in the Province of Wellington aforesaid : Bounded on the North side Two hundred and forty-seven links, by the Waiwetu Road; on the South side, Two hundred and twenty-five links by other part of the same section now or late in the occupation of one Lawson Potts; on the East side, Seventy-eight links-by other land also part of the same section now or late belonging to William Sykes; and on the West side. One hundred and forty-five links by the Hutt Road. And, also : All that piece or parcel of LAND (therein secondly described), containing One acre one rood and seven perches (or thereabouts), situate in, and being part of the said section number 25 (twenty-five) : Bounded on the East partly by the Church premises and partly by unoccupied land, part of the same section, about Three hundred and seventy-seven links, and Seventythree links on the Western side, by the Waiwetu Road ; Four hundred and thirty-eight links on the Southern side by land other part of the same section now or late in the occupation of John Cudley, about Two hundred and ninety links ; and on the North side, by the lane leading from the Waiwetu Road to the Church, about Four hundred and thirty-two links. The TELEGRAPH COMMISSIONER is prepared to RECEIVE TENDERS for the SUPPLY and DELIVERY of FIVE HUNDRED (500) TELEGRAPH POLES, more or less, for a line of Telegraph between the Town of Foxton and the Town of Palmerston North. The poles to be sawn from the heart of totara. The poles to be of the following dimensions ; -Twenty-five (25) and twenty (20) feet long in proportions hereinafter to be determined, but the greater portion will be twenty (20) feet long, to be eight (8) inches square at the butt, and six (6) inches square at the top. The poles to be sound, straight, and free from shakes, knots, and sap. N.B. —No pole will be accepted which contains the least sap or spechled timber , and should any pole be brought on to the ground not in accordance with the specification, the same will be cut in half prior to being rejected. The poles will have to be delivered at points not less than four (4) chains apart, along a line of telegraph to be hereafter more particularly indicated by pegs, which will follow, as a rule, along the present tramway from Foxton to Palmerston north. The delivery of the poles to commence on the Ist September, 1874, and the whole to be delivered within three (3) months of the date of signing the contract, under a penalty of five (£6) pounds per diem for every day beyond the time specified, which penalty will be recoverable from the contractor from axy sums that may be, or become, due to him under his contract. Progress payments will be made at the rate of eighty (80) per cent, as the works advance, the balance on completion of contract. The contractor will not be allowed to let or sub-let his contract without the consent in writing of the Telegraph Commissioner, or of the person authorised by him to act on his behalf. Tenders are to specify the price per pole as poc sizes given. Bach tender to bo accompanied by a deposit of fifty pounds (£SO) as a guarantee of good faith, which sum will bo forfeited by any tenderer, should ho refuse to take up his tender in the event of its being accepted. Each tender must include the names of two sureties for approval, who are willing to become bond for the due performance of the contract in the event of the tender being accepted, and must be accompanied by a notification to the effect, signed by the two proposed sureties. Tenders endorsed, “Tender for the Supply of five hundred (500) Poles, more tor less, for Telegraph Lines between Foxton and Palmerston North," and addressed “The General Manager, Telegraph Department, Wellington,” must bo sent in not later than the Ist August next.
