Tenders addressed to the Hon. the Minister for Public Works, and marked outside, "Tender for Furniture," will be received at the Office of the undersigned up to 4 o'clock of THUESDAY, the 23rd day of July, 187-1. Tenders, endorsed "Tenders for Cartage Telegraph Material," to be sent in not later than the 15th July, and to state time required for completion of the work. Each tender to be accompanied by a deposit of £25, as a guarantee of good faith, which sum will be forfeited by any tenderer should he refuse to take up his tender in the event of its being accepted. The TELEGRAPH COMMISSIONER is prepared to RECEIVE TENDERS for the SUPPLY and DELIVERY of FIVE HUNDRED (500) TELEGRAPH POLES, more or less, for a line of Telegraph between the Town of Foxton and the Town of Palmerston North. The poles to be sawn from the heart of totara. . The poles to be of the following dimensions : —Twenty-five (25) and twenty (20) feet long in proportions hereinafter to be determined, but the greater portion will be twenty (20) feet long, to be eight (8) inches square at the butt, and six (6) inches square at the top. The poles to be sound, straight, and free shakes, knots, and sap. N.B. — No pole win be accepted which' contains the least sap or speckled timber, and should any pole be brought on to the ground not in accordance withthe specification, the same will be cut in half prior to being rejected. The poles will have to be delivered at points than four (4) chains apart, along a line aph to be hereafter more particularly I indicated by pegs, which will follow, as a rule, '- 1 —-j the present tramway from Foxton to The delivery of the poles to commence on the Ist September, 1871, and the whole to be delivered within three (3) months of the date o£ signing the contract, under a penalty of five (£5) pounds per diem for every day beyond the time specified, which penalty will be recoverable from the contractor from any sums that may be, or become, due to him under his contract. Progress payments will be made at the rate of eighty (80) per cent, as the works advance, the balance on completion of contract. The contractor will not be allowed to let or sub-let his contract without the consent in writing of the Telegraph Commissioner, or of the person authorised by him to act on his behalf. Tenders are to specify the price per pole as per sizes given. Eacli tender to be accompanied by a deposit of fifty pounds (£SO) as a guarantee of good faith, which sum will be forfeited by any tenderer, should he refuse to take up his tender in the event of its being accepted. Each tender must include the names of two sureties for approval, who are willing to become bond for the due performance of the contract in the event of the tender being accepted, and must be accompanied by a notification to the eSect, signed by the two proposed sureties.
