ALEXANDER McDONALD AND HIS SOLICITOR.

o TO THE EDITOK. Sin, —In your report of McDonald's case, he is represented as having stated that he had paid me a good deal of money to defend liim. No doubt your reporter is correct as to what was stated by Mr. McDonald, but, as a matter of fact, no money was ever paid to me on any such account. Mr. McDonald happens to owe me nearly £IOO, for money lent to him on promissory notes upwards of a year and a-half an-o. - On Friday last he handed me cheques for various sums amounting altogether to £6-1 Us. 5d., which he requested me to place to the credit of his account with me, at the same tune asking me to pay one or two small accounts tor mm. Up to the date of the receipt of the above sums, Mr. McDonald was the client of Mr. Cash, of Marton, from whom I had received instructions and a brief to defend him ; the brief was not accompanied by any fee, and to this hour I have not received anything on account of it. On Saturday last, however, I received a note from Mr. Cash, stating that he had withdrawn from the case, and referring me to Mr. McDonald for instructions. I advised Mr. McDonald as to the course which appeared to me to be most proper, but I have never received one farthing in connection with his defence. You would oblige me by inserting this letter in your paper.—l am, &c, William Thomas Locke Tbaveks. Wellington, July 7.
