MANAWATU HIGHWAY ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of this Board was held at Palmerston on the 26th June. The following members were present : —Messrs. Snolson (chairman), Dalrymple, Stewart, and Farmer. Minutes of previous meeting read and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr. S. Ahrahams, of Palmerston, asking the Board to form and metal a footpath in front of his premises. A lengthy discussion took place as to the propriety of the Board forming footpaths in the township at the present time, and it was. resolved that the matter should lie over at present. A number of applications wore' laid before the Board for the office of Superintendent of Works, but as none of them were considered satisfactory, it was resolved to call for fresh tenders.
A letter from settlers in Raukaua district was read, asldng the Board to form a road leading to their property,, they promising to metal it. It was resolved to call for tenders immediately. An application, was read from Mr. J. T. Dalrymple, asking for permission to erect a gate across a highway adjoining his property at Te Matia. Granted. Leave was given to Mr. John Lees of Sandon, in answer to a similar application. Notice was given by Mr.' Snelson that at the next meeting he would apply for the grant in aid due to his ward. The amount to be expended on a line of road to be determined upon, leading to the public reserve for Palmerston. An application from Mr. Snelson, for permission to expend the sum of .-£ls upon necesBary works in his ward, was acceded to. An application from Mr. Parmer, for permission to call for tenders for certain works required in his ward, particulars to be laid before the Board at next meeting, was granted. The following tenders were received for road clearing in the Scandinavian block, above Palmerston : —Ernstrom & Co., 40 chains at £1 14s. Gd. per chain ; accepted. Haggerty, 60 chains at £1 15s. ; accepted. Backing & Co., £1 lGs. 9d.; declined. The Collector was instructed to take legal step 3 to recover outstanding accounts due to the Board.
